Regulating emotions in Sport



Being able to regulate emotions in sport isn’t always easy (see above picture of my "last chance" by a referee). A referees bad call, feeling frustrated because of the current score or even shying away from challenging parts of your sport.


Techniques to manage and control emotional responses to enhance performance are highly beneficial as the athlete has the ability to make behaviour changes. Strategies like deep breathing, visualisation combatting negative thoughts, and positive self-talk help athletes stay calm, focused, and confident.


By understanding how to emotionally regulate during sports will help the athlete improve their concentration, resilience, decision making and overall performance under pressure. It
