In a Performance Slump / Rough time?

Key: 🔑 Stop Trying to Fix Everything Mid-Game
When your usual skill suddenly stops clicking, your brain can go into overdrive.
You start analysing technique, watching statistics, replaying mistakes and wondering, “What’s wrong with me?”
That usually makes things worse.
Performance slumps happen in every sport. A striker stops scoring. A golfer loses their putting touch. A tennis player’s serve disappears. A surfer starts missing waves they’d normally make.
The danger isn’t always the slump itself. It’s what the athlete starts believing because of it.
Athletes who bounce back well tend to:
• Stay committed to their normal preparation
• Avoid making panicked technical changes mid-performance
• Use training as evidence of their ability
• Keep taking opportunities instead of playing safe
• Separate temporary results from their identity
• Trust the work they’ve already done
Imagine two athletes having the same rough patch.
One thinks, “I’ve lost it.”
The other thinks, “This is temporary. Keep going.”
Same slump. Very different response.
At HB Athlete Mindset, I help athletes work through performance slumps, loss of confidence, overthinking, fear of mistakes, self-doubt and the mental skills needed to perform freely under pressure.
Because a bad patch doesn’t mean you’ve suddenly forgotten how to play your sport.
